A delegation from the State of Qatar visited the NBS to strengthen bilateral cooperation
The delegation of the State of Qatar headed by Mr. Mohammed Jassim Al-Buainain – Director of the Department of Social and Environmental Statistics of the National Statistics Center (NSC) visited the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), where a meeting with the NBS management team was held to discuss about key directions of future bilateral cooperation in the field of statistics.
At the NBS headquarters, Director General of the Bureau, Oleg Cara, warmly welcomed Mr. Mohammed Jassim Al-Buainain – the Head of Delegation of the State of Qatar, Ms. Dana Ali Zainal – the representative of the Office of the General Manager of the NSC and Mr. Khalifa Almohannadi – the representative of the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Moldova, and the delegation of the UNFPA Moldova headed by Mrs. Natalia Plugaru.
The distinguished guests had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the activities of the National Bureau of Statistics, both as the main producer of official statistics in the country and as the Coordinator of the National Statistical System (NSS), as well as into the NBS’ vision and objectives for modernising statistical activities in the future. The NBS team provided the guests with an overview of the functioning of the NSS, the institutional capacities of the NBS, the current state of its information technology infrastructure (ITI), and the implementation of new technologies in the production and dissemination of official statistics. In particular, the guests had a tour to visit the premises of the NBS’ General Division of Information Technologies to familiarize better with the information infrastructure of the NBS.
The participants discussed various aspects of the NBS and NSC experience in data production and dissemination, as well as priorities for mutually beneficial cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the State of Qatar.
On 5 June, during the Moldova Digital Summit 2025, within the high-level panel “Moldova - Qatar Partnership: Data Governance and Digitalisation on the Road to the EU”, the Letter of commencement of Shared Horizons was signed between the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Chisinau, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization of the Republic of Moldova, the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for the Republic of Moldova. This initiative marks a significant step towards a partnership in the field of digitalisation and statistics.
